About UsWho we are and what inspires us Heyland and Whittle
At Heyland and Whittle we have been making our famous handmade soaps since 1998. We started, like so many businesses, making soap for ourselves. We had tried so many different commercial soaps and found that none of them made us "feel clean". They also tended to dry our skin and we wanted to find a solution as there did not seem to be one available. From this our handmade soap was born, on a kitchen table in September 1998. Soon friends and friend of friends were using it and we found that there was a market for a better soap. People appreciated the honesty of what they were using. We made it, knew what was in it, and drew a line at what would not go into it. They were amazed at the fact that they not only "felt clean" but were clean and their skin was left soft and moisturised. Our range of natural luxury soaps follow a time honoured traditional "cold processed" method of production. Fresh specially chosen plant oils are gently warmed to their natural melting points and then slowly added to a naturally occurring alkaline solution to form the base of all our recipes. As the mixture saponifies pure essential oils, flower extracts, herbs and spices are generously added to present to you the Heyland and Whittle collection. We have created a versatile collection of soaps to suit all skin types, which boast beneficial properties because of our unique production methods. Commercially manufactured soaps are usually made with ingredients that have been decolourised and deodorised to make them cosmetically neutral and more appealing and subject to excessive pressure and high temperatures, this very ‘refinement' destroys any natural healing properties. This harsh process results in products which are full of synthetic fragrance, colorants, preservatives and foaming agents that can be irritating for the skin and may result in allergy or sensitivity. In addition to our natural fragrances we only use natural colourings such as Madder Root, Walnut leaves, Nettle leaves, Turmeric and many more. Only the purest ingredients make the finest quality soap. All our soaps retain their natural glycerine content unlike commercial soaps which are often made purely for the production of this natural product. In commercial soap making this glycerine is removed by a chemical process and sold separately at many times the price of the soap. Glycerine is a natural humecant, drawing moisture to the skin and holding it there. This natural moisturiser is an integral part of our soap and is one more reason why it is so special. We know you will appreciate it too. |
